Assassin's Creed for Playstation 3Gaming goes medieval. The game has a long and intricate story line that bounces back and forth between the past and the present. In a nutshell you are a present day guy whose bloodline goes back to an ancient brotherhood, known as the Assassins.
A doctor is using a machine called the Animus to tap into your DNA, and your ancestor’s memories. As you progress through the game you bounce back and forth from past to present learning more about what’s at stake. All the action takes place in the past so I’ll begin there. In the beginning you are on a mission with another Assassin, in a matter of minutes you are disgraced and you lose most of your abilities.
Don’t worry you’ll spend the duration of the game regaining them one by one. What I meant by duration is you’ll spend what seems like a lifetime navigating you’re way around a massive map. In the early stages I felt like the game dragged.
The action was few and far between, and there was a lot of time spent setting up a grand story that spans generations. Don’t quit! You’ll be rewarded for your patience, and your time invested.Once you get the hang of the controls, which aren’t terribly difficult, you’ll embark on one of the most intriguing adventures games I’ve played.
Just make sure you stop to enjoy the scenery. One by one you’ll hunt down men who are said to be evil. Each assassination reveals more information that I’m not going to disclose in this review. It would take away from your game experience. Before you can make each kill you need to walk among the people in each of the cities and gather information.
You’ll need to complete tasks like pick pocketing, interrogating, and saving citizens before each target can be found, and eliminated. If I have any complaints about the game here they are. Sometimes it takes too long in between each chapter. And, the method of getting to the target is very repetitive. You’ll be a skilled pick pocket, and your knuckles will be as bloody as your sword because of all the people you need to “beat up” to get the information you need.
I think the key word in this game is patience. You’ll learn through trial and error that blending into the crowd and walking slow might actually mean faster progress, than if you run around like a mad man. That was a free tip, read this paragraph again if you missed it.
Like most games it gets more difficult as you progress through each task and the story line gets more interesting so the action does pick up.In the interest of time I’ll move on to the game’s high points. The pun is intended here. Once you’ve scaled the mountainside in the beginning of the game and done the “leap of faith” you’ll know what I mean.
Throughout the game you’ll climb towers, steeples, and cliff edges just for the thrill of doing a swan dive from the highest point. It also becomes useful as you try to run from the bad guys.Visually this is easily the best game I’ve seen.
The cities have poor districts, and rich districts that really give you a sense of where you are based on the surroundings. What’s most impressive, and the attention to detail is tremendous, is the shear size of the map. It has multiples cities, thousands of people, and as many buildings.
Then there’s the hand, and foot holds virtually everywhere. As you run, climb, or bound your way around you’ll be amazed at what’s in the game, and how there is almost no limit to where you’re adventure can go.I started writing this review thinking I was impressed with the game’s graphics but not so impressed with the game play.
Now that I’ve thought more about it I really did like the game. Here’s the catch don’t try to play it all in one sitting, that’s impossible. I would even give your self a month or two.I played the game and progressed as quickly as I could to write this review and I’ll admit I left a few citizens to the guards, and didn’t collect all of the flags, or speak to all the informants.
Basically, you’ll get more out of the game if you’re willing to put in the time.I’m not sure if the replay value is there because of the amount of time it takes to play through the story line, but if you haven’t played Assassin’s Creed I do recommend it. I will give this a 4 out of 5 rating.
That’s mean’s it’s a good game, but it’s not for everyone. It takes more dedication than some gamers may have to offer.
